OUR SAFETY TRAVEL TIPS

1/ Preparatives

Before setting out, find out about traffic and weather conditions and traffic forecasts.
Ensure you have all the useful safety accessories: a high visibility jacket for each passenger of your vehicle, a bottle of water, a blanket. Check fuel, oil and battery levels.
Make sure any roof luggage is firmly attached. Load heavy items in the boot and don’t place luggage on the rear shelf.

2/ Check your tyre pressure and wear

There are free automatic inflation stations on the car parks of the following toll stations:
• Saint-Arnoult toll station (A10 motorway, in direction of Paris)
• Monnaie toll station near Tours (A10, in direction of the provinces)
• Sorigny toll station, near Tours (A10, in direction of Paris).

3/ Remember pulling back into the right-most lane

It is not reserved for lorries. Driving on it makes traffic flowing freely.

4/ Do not drive on the hard shoulder

It is not a traffic lane: maintenance vehicles and vehicles that have broken down may park on it.

5/ At the toll station, slow down and stop

Cofiroute staff may cross the lanes.

6/ Take a break every two hours

Driving while tired is the main cause of fatal accidents on the motorway. Take a break at the first sign of fatigue, regardless of how close you are to your destination. Rest and service areas are designed for you to take a break.

WHAT TO DO IN THE EVEN OF A BREAKDOWN

1/ Make yourself safe

• Park as far to the right as possible on the hard shoulder
• Turn on your hazard lights
• Put on your high visibility jacket
• Always get out of your vehicle through the right-hand door
• Get behind the safety barrier

2/ Call the motorway emergency services from an orange roadside telephone

Roadside telephones are installed about 2 km apart. Your call will be transferred to the emergency services, who will forward it to a breakdown service approved to operate on the motorway and maintain optimum safety conditions.
